In one of his letters to Ferdinand Blumentritt. Rizal wrote that even
with his credentials, he wouldn't have been given a license to teach. What a loss for the young Filipinos then.
So, that's one more thing I share with Rizal, I am not a licensed teacher. So, let us you and I forget about teacher
and student. Let's simply have a good time learning about José Rizal, sharing ideas and laughter and sighs....
"Iskuwelahang Munti" is only as small as your PC monitor, but this classroom is as wide as everything
you can find and meet in cyberspace.
Learning Together
How do we study Rizal, a man so prolific in his writings that one does quite know where to begin. Naturally, we
begin with the simplest: his short tales. Then we can go on to his two novels and maybe that would prepare us
for his essays. Between readings, could sample his letters, entries to his diaries and, the poems, course.

Inspirational Quote
My dreams, when life first opened to me, My dreams, when the hopes of youth beat high, Were to see thy lov'd face, O gem of the Orient sea. From
gloom and grief, from care and sorrow free; No blush on thy
brow, no tear in thine eye.
(a
stanza from Rizal's "My Last Farewell")

Ateneo de Municipal |
Rizal studied at the Ateneo de Municipal de Manila. They were not called "Ateneans" then; that was coined decades
laterl. In his letter to Ferdinand Blumentritt when he said that.the Jesuits did not teach about love of
country but they taught everything of what was true and beautiful. My pride in being an Atenean grew by leaps and
bounds after I read that.
